Dr. Amjad Husain is a scientist, business management professional and cofounder of Canfinis Therapeutics. He has years of experience in drug discovery, setting up Bio-entrepreneurship ecosystems and has worked in leadership roles in both industry and academics. Amjad is currently a Principal Investigator at the Cancer Research Institute, SRHU in Dehradun, as well as the director of the Himalayan Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Prior to this, he held positions as senior vice president at Avesthagen and as GM of research and development at Biocon Biologics, He played a key role in founding the IISER Bhopal’s Centre for Science and Society as its first head, and the Innovation and Incubation Centre for Entrepreneurship as its first CEO. He was the CEO of University Technology Park, Director of Research at Glocal University, and group leader of precision oncology leading clinical translational science at Cellworks in Bangalore, where he led the development of patient-specific personalized cancer treatment approaches based on genomics and AI-ML models. Amjad received his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School, where he contributed to the advancement of high throughput drug screening platform and the transfer of technology to the pharmaceutical industry.  His research led to two preclinical compounds that were tested in phase-II clinical trials for cancer. Amjad has completed a short management course at Harvard Business School, a PhD from the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in Delhi, and master’s degree in biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. He has over 30 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and has served in a various advisory capacities for various start-up companies.
